Training & Support

Here at Plus One we believe in working as one team, with the emphasis of shared responsibility for both the child and the carer. We have an open forum where best practice and ideas are shared to create innovative strategies for caring for the children and the carers, ensuring that each situation is treated individually building stronger relationships and understanding for all involved.

Through the training and support provided by Plus One we are able to contribute to the stability of a placement, along with appropriately matching the needs of the child to the relevant carer who can fully support their needs, providing stability and a sense of security for the child.

Our support workers only carry a small caseload meaning each carer, and every child receives high quality support being able to access support during the day or night, supported with a 24-hour phone line in the event of an emergency or crisis.

Before proceeding to become an approved foster carer, applicants must complete ‘Skills to Foster Training’ which Plus One provides. Once applicants have successfully completed this training they will be allocated a member of staff who will carry out an assessment of the applicant's suitability to provide foster care. Once applicants are approved as foster carers they are required to attend ongoing training to assist in their role as carers. It is a requirement that foster carers complete the CWDC qualification which is a nationally recognised certificate. Through experience and training our foster carers can progress through Plus One's career structure.
