What Makes A Good Foster Carer?
There is no one type of person that makes a good foster carer. Fostering agencies recognise that not all potential carers have the required skill set. Therefore on going training and development is given providing carers with the relevant skills, knowledge and understanding of what is required to be considered a good foster carer.
Some of the qualities required to be a good foster carer are:
Enjoy the company of children/young people
Flexible and non-judgemental
Able to negotiate and compromise
Show understanding and empathy with a child or young person who has been neglected or abused
Show understanding and empathy towards a parent who has ill-treated or was unable to protect their child
